Phil Eyre

GEM MBA Program Director, Associate Faculty and Module Supervisor, Associate Professor

Phil Eyre is GEM MBA Program Director, with responsibility for onsite and offsite programs, including full-time and part-time MBA programs in Grenoble, London, Moscow and Georgia. He also has academic responsibility for the GEM-Schneider Electric Corporate MBA in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 

Phil Eyre is enolled in a part-time M.Phil/Phd degree with Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. Research area : the political economy of inward foreign direct investment in the the European Union. 

He is affiliated faculty for the Harvard ‘Microeconomics of Competitiveness' program, widely taught in GEM, via the Grenoble Lab-Center for Competitiveness led by Dr Mark Esposito. In 2011 and 2012 he took part in the Cambridge (UK) Advanced Management Program at St Catherine's college, delivering a session entitled ‘Visions of Europe'. Phil graduated with a B.Sc. summa cum laude in Economics from Cardiff University and an M.A. in Management Teaching from the EM Lyon/Lancaster University European Management Teaching Program. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach and using the case method extensively, his classes confront students with strategic business issues from legal, political and economic perspectives. Within the field of International Business, Phil teaches the following courses : European Integration, the European Business Environment, Global Trade, Sourcing and Logistics in Supply Chain Management, Business in Emerging Economies. For the MBA program he takes the Business in the Global Environment elective class and the final capstone module or ‘Integrative Case'. Over the years, visiting teaching on the above topics includes short deliveries for institutions at graduate and at undergraduate level in the USA, UK, Singapore, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Serbia. He is regularly invited to lecture in the US on European integration issues. Before focusing on academic activity he gained professional experience in service and manufacturing companies in Britain, France and Italy in the IT, office equipment and tourist sectors. Phil is a British national who has spent most of his professional career working in French business schools apart from short periods in Britain and Italy.


Phil Eyre graduated with a BSc summa cum laude in Economics from Cardiff University and an MA in Management Teaching from the EM Lyon/Lancaster University European Management Teaching Program. Before focusing on academic activity, he gained professional experience in service and manufacturing companies in Britain, France and Italy. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, his classes confront students with the economic, legal, political and cultural dimensions of business issues. Based on an interactive and multi-activity pedagogical style, these classes include cases and mini cases, video documentaries, debate and discussion with constant exchange between teacher and student. Within the field of International Business, Phil teaches the following courses: European Integration (the E.U.), International Business Environment, Business in Emerging Economies, International Negotiations, International Business and English-Speaking Countries. Over the years he has taught at all the major local schools – Grenoble, Lyon, Chambéry and St Etienne – and he is a regular Visiting Professor at the following: Cardiff Business School, University of Idaho, Mendel University, Brno, and Megatrend University, Belgrade. Research interests include the international development of SMEs and the writing of mini cases.
